Mandatory Scheme Pays deadline

Information For information

Members who have breached the standard annual allowance of £40,000 can elect for mandatory Scheme Pays to pay the tax charge. If they wish to take this option for the 2016/17 tax year, the deadline for notifying USS is 31 July 2018. They should complete and submit the scheme pays form, confirmation will be sent to them once the process is complete.

Further information is available from the Scheme Pays factsheet, and there is a modeller available for members whose USS Investment Builder fund doesn’t cover the tax charge.


Annual member statements – request for information

On 29 June we emailed official and pensions contacts asking for information we need for the annual member statements.

You have until 20 July to let us know if you need alternative contact information printing on the statement for your members or if you have a different delivery address for the statements. It’s also the deadline to send us a reference file (or tell us that you’d like us to use the same file that you’ve already submitted for the cost sharing consultation). All the information that you need, including the information that we’ll be printing on your members’ statements, is included in the email we sent you on 29 June.

Overseas and cross border employees

There’s new guidance and a checklist to help employers who have employees who are working overseas and would like some assistance identifying whether they are ‘cross-border’. You can access them from the new Employer resource hub on the employer portal. Once you have completed the checklist you should return it to us for confirmation.

The last member update was sent on 5 July 2018 and included information for members about My USS. The next one is due in August. We’ll be sending important information about the valuation in the meantime. Please make sure that you send these member messages on to your members as soon as possible after you receive them.
